Dedham is a mid size community located along Route 95 with approximately 25,000 residents and bordered by Needham, Westwood and Canton. Settled in 1635, it was originally home to the first taxpayer-funded public school in what would be the in the United States and it prides itself on being the seed of American education.
In 1644 the first schoolhouse was built in present day Dedham Square. Descendants of the school’s first class would later become notably the presidents of Dartmouth College, Yale University and Harvard University.
Dedham is unique where it is comprised of many different neighborhoods that include Oakdale, Riverdale, Greenlodge, The Manor, East Dedham, Precinct One, Ashcroft and Fairbanks. Each noted for their distinct location, collection of homes, architecture and proximity to the Charles River.
Dedham is also now home to Legacy Place, an upscale destination for outdoor shopping and dining options.
